How to Decide When Your Child Is Ready for Camp

Children are ready for new experiences at different stages. Parents know their children best and these questions can help gauge whether this is the summer your child will start camp.

  • What is your child's age? Children under age seven may not adjust easily to being away from home. Consider the day camp experience to prepare them for future overnight camp.
  • How did your child become interested in camp?
  • Does your child talk about camp on a sustained basis? How much persuasion is necessary from you?
  • Has your child had positive overnight experiences away from home? Visiting relatives or friends? Were these separations easy or difficult?
  • What does your child expect to do at camp? Learning about the camp experience ahead of time allows you to, create positive expectations.
  • Are you able to share consistent and- positive messages about camp? Your confidence in a positive experience will be contagious.

Our camp was born with the vision of bringing kids together from around the world, to work and play together in harmony and security. The founders felt that, as we move towards an increasingly, interconnected and global community, Ekocamp could help to prepare teen to play a positive role in this brave new world which they will soon inherit.

To achieve this, we concentrate on skills training, with special emphasis on language, cultural understanding and tolerance. At the same time, it fosters a love for and familiarity with the world of nature.

The 'global village' is already an integral part of our daily living. Whether it is the fruit we eat, the coffee we drink, the gas which powers our cars, or the splashy T-shirt on our back, our quality of life is increasingly interconnected with the health of a multitude of communities around the world.

Language is the doorway to understanding the infinite variety of human cultures; understanding culture is the key to tolerance; working and playing together is the means through which culture and tolerance are given a human face and then extended through friendship.
